     KIMBREL SAVES MINERS SPLIT WITH BOULEVARDS

Craig Kimbrel saved 2 games for the Miners to salvage a split with the Kansas City Boulevards at the Mine.

Game 1

Notes:
KCB opened the scoring in the 5th.  Dee Gordon reached on a Chris Sale error, stole second and scored on a 2 base error by Carlos Santana.  Santana redeemed himself with a RBI single in the 5th to knot the score.  The Miners won the game in the 8th on Jose Iglesias RBI single. 

Chris Sale ( 7-5-1-0-1-6) and Mike Leake (5.2-7-1-1-3-3) both pitched well enough to win.

Game 2

Encarncion hit a 2 run home run and Colin Moran hit a RBI double to make it a 3-0 lead after 3.  The Miners fought back with a 4 run 4th to take a 4-3 lead.  The key hit was a 2 run double by Mookie Betts.  Craig Kimbrel saved another game by leading the bases loaded in the 8th and shutout KCB in the 9th.

Game 3

Manager Billy Martin had to rest Craig Kimbrel for the last two games of the series which may have played a role in the two losses.  KCB exploded for 3 runs in the 9th to take this game 6-4.  Max Kepler drove in 3 runs and Encarcion and Yelich hit solo shots for this win.  Tanaka hit a RBI double but it was not enough.  Martin was forced to use Jesse Chavez a 3rd straight time and it backfired.

Game 4

L:  Danny Duffy: 5-10-7-7-3-3
HR: Ozuna, Encarncion, Longoria (2)

Danny Duffy will have trouble holding down the 4th spot in the rotation if opponents continue to light him up like they did in game 4.  KCB has some real power bats like Ozuna, Encarcion and Longoria.

The Miners now stand 5-7 on the season.

2020CH1: MINERS GO 8-20/ FANS FEAR LONG SEASON

Neil Walker Chapter 1 MVP (351/393/544)  The Joplin Miners went 10-18 in Chapter 1.  Here are the series results:  Salem 0-4 Darien: 3-1 NCISP:3-1 Los Altos: 1-3 Ravenwood: 1-3 Kansas City: 2-2 Las Vegas: 0-4 Joplin fans were frustrated by the 1-5 record in 1 run games. There were a number of red flags in Chapter 1.  The pitching staff went 10-18 with a 5.35 ERA. Chris Sale, the ace of the staff, went 1-3 with a 6.14 ERA.  True, he did strike out 43 batters and only walked 7 in 19 innings but the ERA indicates opposing teams had no trouble scoring runs. Danny Duffy (2-2-4.85) and Tanner Roark ( 2-1-3.38) provided some respectable starts but the bullpen was simply nonexistent and the lack of cash to acquire additional pitching showed up in the bottom of the rotation.
