MINERS SPLIT WITH FLAMINGOS IN LAS VEGAS

Franchy Cordero Cranks Out 2 Homers in 1 Game 


Game 1: Bartolo Colon ( Joplin) v. Mike Minor ( LVF)

LVF:   3.6.0

Bartolo Colon started for the Miners and Mike Minor took the mound  for the Flamingos.
Minor ( 6.5.2.2.4.2) picked up the win while Colon ( 6 1/3. 6.3.2.0.3) took the loss.
Las Vegas took an early 2-0 lead in the 1st  thanks mainly to an Adam Eaton 3B and a Mark
Reynolds 1B. Joplin tied the score at 2-2 with a Logan Forsythe in the 3rd and a Jose Iglesias
homer in the 3rd.  Joplin threatened to open up the game in the 5th when they loaded the bases
only to have Chad Pinder line out to center.  Mark Reynolds hit a homer in the 6th to seal the
win for the Flamingos.

Game 2: Marco Estrada ( Joplin ) v. Chase Anderson ( LVF)

Joplin: 0.2.0
LVF:   5.7.0

Chase Anderson threw a 2 hit shutout over 7 innings as Las Vegas mowed down the Miners
5-0.  Francisco Lindor homered to give LVF an early 1-0 lead in the 4th.  Mark Reynolds doubled
and scored on a 2 run shot by Trey Mancini to extend the lead to 3-0 after 7.  Scooter Gennett hit
an additional 2 run shot to make it 5-0.  Marco Estrada ( 7.5.3.3.0.5 ) ate up some innings but
could not pick up the win.

Game 3: Jamie Garcia ( Joplin) v. Dan Straily ( LVF)

Joplin:  11.12.1
LVF:     2.10.1

Franchy Cordero hit 2 home runs and knocked in 5 runs as the Miners exploded for 11 runs to
pick up the win.  The Miners scored 3 runs in the first on a Mookie Betts solo shot and the first
2 run homer off of Cordero's bat.  Joplin exploded for 6 runs in the 2nd thanks to a 3 run shot by
Mr. Cordero and RBI doubles by Betts and Santana as well as a RBI single by Dan Peralta.
Jamie Garcia ( 6.8.2.2.1.5) picked up the win while Charlie Morton picked up a save with 3 innings
of scoreless relief.

Game 4: Dan Duffy ( Joplin) v. Ivan Nova (LVF)

Joplin  7.9.1
LVF     6.9.1

Neither starter figured in the win.  Danny Duffy ( 5.7.6.4.5.4) continued his inconsistent pitching while
Ivan Nova ( 6 2/3. 3.3.1.3.2) could not hold a 6-2 lead.

Las Vegas took an early 2-0 lead on a 2 run shot by Brandon Guyer.
Joplin tied it up in the 3rd on a Mookie Betts double and a Freeman single.
LVF opened up a 6-2 lead in the 5th on Mark Reynolds 3 run shot and Max Stassi's 2 run double.
The Miners responded like the defending champions should. 
Carlos Santana hit a solo shot in the 7th to make it 6-3.
With their back to the wall, the Miners scored 4 runs in the top of the 9th.  Gentry and Santana
hit RBI singles and Chad Pinder slashed a 2 run single to make it 7-6.  Craig Kimbrel gave up
a Francisco Lindor double but shutdown Las Vegas the rest of the way to pick up his 5th save of the season.

The Miners now stand at 11-9 on the season and have remaining series left against North Carolina and Bear Country.
