MINERS ADD PITCHING DEPTH VIA WAIVER CLAIMS AT CHAPTER 1 DEADLINE

    Can Casey Kelly return to the majors via Korea ?

The Miners added Taylor Williams, Sam Tuivialia, Fern Salas, Casey Kelly and Kazu Makita to the pitching staff.  In order to make room for these pitchers, Joplin released Bartolo Colon, Rosell Herrera, Pat Neshek and Chris Devenski.

The release of Devenski was puzzling given he had a 1.54 ERA and the Miners were fined 1.1 million for his release. The Miners released Devenski because they knew he would regress to his 4.51 ERA.  The move reinforces Miner management focus on making the playoffs in the limited time window available to the franchise.

BLACK SOX TAKE 3/4 OF SERIES: MINERS CONTINUE SLUMP

Javier Baez Launches 4 Bombs  June 9th: Charlie Morton vs. Clayton Kershaw  Joplin: 6-7-0 Chicago: 7-15-0 WP:E. Ramos LP: C. Sale This game was the most gut wrenching loss of the season. The Black Sox jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to Javier Baez's blast in the first.  Carlos Santana led the Miner comeback with 2 home runs and 4 RBIs off Clayton Kershaw.  Kershaw went 6 innings and left after surrendering 5 earned runs. MINERS SPLIT WITH FLAMINGOS IN LAS VEGAS

Franchy Cordero Cranks Out 2 Homers in 1 Game  Game 1: Bartolo Colon ( Joplin) v. Mike Minor ( LVF)   Joplin  2.8.1 LVF:   3.6.0 Bartolo Colon started for the Miners and Mike Minor took the mound  for the Flamingos. Minor ( 6.5.2.2.4.2) picked up the win while Colon ( 6 1/3. 6.3.2.0.3) took the loss. Las Vegas took an early 2-0 lead in the 1st  thanks mainly to an Adam Eaton 3B and a Mark Reynolds 1B. Joplin tied the score at 2-2 with a Logan Forsythe in the 3rd and a Jose Iglesias homer in the 3rd.  Joplin threatened to open up the game in the 5th when they loaded the bases only to have Chad Pinder line out to center.  Mark Reynolds hit a homer in the 6th to seal the win for the Flamingos.
