2019 POST SEASON BANQUET : BETTS AND SALE TOP DOGS

                       Mookie Betts MVP:  (329/427/616)  30 HRs/20 SBs

Pitcher of the Year ( 175/259/292)

The 2019 Joplin Miners finished 95-65 and made the playoffs as one of two wildcard teams.  Manager Billy Martin decided to start Hyjun-Jin Ryu against Ravenwood's Walker Buehler.  Joplin took a 1-0 lead into the 8th inning then Chris Sale threw 2 shutout innings for a 1-0 lead and a ticket to the playoffs against the Los Altos Undertakers.  Charlie Morton came up with 2 key wins and Masa Tanaka won game 7 by a 5-1 margin to propel the Miners to the Ozzie League championship against the Salem Cowtippers.   Although the first 5 games were all decided by 1 run, Salem blew up the Miner bullpen in game 6 as the Cowtippers won the Ozzie League championship 4 games to 2.

Mookie Betts won the team MVP award and should have a legitimate claim to a OL MVP award.  After all, Mookie had a superior slash line ( 329/427/616) , combined 30 HRs and 20 SBs to demonstrate his power and speed and roamed the spacious RF of the Mine with an Ex arm and EX defensive rating.  Add the fact he scored the winning runs in multiple playoff games and you have all you need for a MVP award.

Chris Sale won the team pitcher of the year award and also should be a solid contender for the OL Cy Young award.  Sale led the OL with the best slash line ( 175/259/292) and finished with the best ERA (2.40) and finished second in Ks ( 248) even though he only pitched 169 innings.
